Silence
Stand at one of the busiest places. Don’t move. Stand completely still. Now close your eyes and notice every sound that your ears perceive. Imagine all these sounds fading away. Imagine there’s no noise. Imagine there’s no screeching of tires, no honking of vehicles, no shouting, no crying, no haste, no rush. Imagine the stillness. Imagine the silence. Imagine the fainted sound of the birds chirping. Imagine the muffled sound of the wind gushing through the trees. Imagine the sound of the river flowing below your feet. Take a deep breath. Stand still.
Imagine lying silently on your mother’s lap. Imagine hugging your dad for no reason. Imagine looking straight into your partner’s eyes without saying a word. Imagine gazing at stars with your best friend silently. Imagine long walks on the beach without talking to anyone. Imagine going on a solo trip without your phone. Imagine a day with no calls, no emails, no messages. Imagine sitting on the hilltop and not clicking pictures. Imagine not saying a word in a heated argument. Imagine being silent than a ruthless critic. Imagine smiling at a stranger without saying anything. Imagine praying for someone without them knowing. Imagine the silent prayers. Imagine following your beliefs silently. Imagine the silent protests.
Don’t you think our world would be a better place if we sometimes appreciate silence? Don’t you think we’d better be able to communicate with ourselves when our thoughts about everything else are muted? Don’t you think silence has so much to say? Don’t you believe silence is much underrated?
